'Gertie' is a very classy sailing dayboat, easily towed and launched on her double-axle trailer, with a good roomy cockpit, fast and stable.
Her design is based on the racing Sandbaggers which once skimmed around the cans of New York Bay.
The modern cedar-epoxy construction of her hull combined with the traditional wooden spars and lacing of the gaff rig attract many admiring glances.
Distinctive features include the plumb bow and stern, the long boom overhanging the transom and the shallow draft with retractable centreboard.
'Gertie' has the option of two mast positions. She can be sailed singlehanded with mainsail alone or converted to a sloop rig with jib on bowsprit.
Launched in summer 2005 she won her class at the Gandore Classic Regatta in West Cork with more prizes at the 2007 event of this biennial regatta.
Moored during the summer in Crosshaven, home of the oldest yacht club in the world, she has given countless hours of fun and relaxation and is now looking forward to her new owner! |
